iPrint kiosksTo facilitate students wishing to print from their own computers, ITD has placed several iPrint kiosks around campus. Each kiosk contains a printer that can be printed to from anywhere on campus, including from a student or faculty member's own computer. More information about iPrint can be found on the iPrint homepage. iPrint locations can be found on the Technology Resource Locator (TRL) iPrint kiosk page. Mobile laptop cartsFor classes that require more advanced forms of participation, ITD has distributed a number of mobile laptop carts around campus. These carts provide a class with 15 to 35 laptops, allowing each student to use a full computing system during class. The laptops can connect to the campus wireless network and are TigerLAN-enabled, providing an environment matching the computer labs. Faculty who wish to reserve a cart can see where they are located by visiting the Technology Resource Locator mobile laptop carts page. SmartCartsITD provides SmartCarts as a way to bring most of a typical smart classroom's technology to regular classrooms. These are portable carts that contain a projector and computer system and can be wheeled into any classroom that has a blank wall or screen, transforming the room into a smart classroom. Faculty who wish to reserve a smartcart can find a list of available carts on the Technology Resource Locator SmartCarts page. Smart ClassroomsWorking with the deans and academic departments, ITD acquires and installs a variety of electronic equipment in classrooms across campus and at the university's satellite campuses. This equipment, which is used by faculty for classroom instruction, includes PCs, overhead projectors, document cameras, and other electronic devices. Classrooms that are equipped in this way are called Smart Classrooms. Faculty who wish to use smart classrooms can locate them using the Technology Resource Locator Smart Classroom page. The TRL lists each of the university's labs and smart classrooms, as well as the equipment that each contains, a virtual tour of each classroom, and instructions for using the equipment available in the classroom. Supercomputing CenterLocated in the FedEX Institute of Technology, the Supercomputing Center provides researchers at the University of Memphis with high performance computing. For more information concerning the Supercomputing Center, see the high performance computing web site. TigerLAN labsFunded by the Technology Access Fee, TigerLAN is a group of networked computer labs providing Internet access, software, hardware, and support to the members of the University of Memphis community. Most of the TigerLAN labs are maintained by the university's Local Support Providers, but the university's two 24-hour labs, one of which is in the McWherter Library and the other of which is in the Smith Chemistry Building, are manned and maintained by ITD. For a list of TigerLAN labs and their locations, see the Technology Resource Locator TigerLAN labs page.
