Getting started with technology at the University of Memphis is easy! What EVERY new person at the University of Memphis should do FIRST: get a UUIDThe Universal UserID (UUID) is your key to accessing almost all of the computer systems at the university, from e-mail to the course management system, from lab computers to the university portal, and many, many systems in between. STEP 1—Activate your UUID and agree to the Acceptable use of Technology Policy. STEP 2—Establish your security questions, choose a vanity email address and display name. STEP 3—Begin accessing your assigned resources. STEP 1—Activate your UUID.A student's UUID is created as soon as the student is admitted to the university. Information outlining the steps to initialize the UUID is mailed along with the acceptance letter. This letter contains a twenty-character account activation code used with the university Identity Management system. Students who have not initialized their UUIDs before arriving to campus can use card swipe machines located in the Smith and McWherter 24-hour labs. Students who need assistance should contact the Helpdesk at 901-678-8888 or e-mail clientservices@memphis.edu. UUIDs are created for every tenure-track faculty member and many adjunct faculty members when their contracts are approved and entered into the APR system. Faculty members should receive information about initializing their accounts in the mail along their contracts. Faculty who need assistance should contact the Helpdesk at 901-678-8888 or e-mail clientservices@memphis.edu. New staff and new adjunct faculty should contact the ITD Helpdesk to check the status of their UUIDs if they have not received one from their supervisor or LSP. While staff and adjunct faculty have UUIDs created automatically when their records are created in the HR system, we strongly recommend contacting the Helpdesk to check its status. New staff should check with the Helpdesk on their first day at work. New Adjunct faculty should check after receiving a copy of their signed contract. The Helpdesk can be contacted at 901-678-8888 or by e-mailing clientservices@memphis.edu. Guests should contact the IT-Helpdesk at 901-678-8888 to begin the account process. STEP 2—Access iAM to establish your security questions, choose a vanity e-mail address, and display name. The university’s Identity Management system is called iAM and is online twenty-four hours per day, every day. This system allows you reset your UUID password if you forget it, change your PIN number for accessing TigerWEB for Students and Web for Faculty, and choose a vanity e-mail address. To reduce frustration you should also complete the security questions and answers. If you initialize your UUID using the iAM Account Activation Code, you will be directed to establish your security questions in order to complete the process. If you use a cardswipe machine to activate your UUID, you are not required to create your security question answer pair—it is strongly suggested that you go back to iam.memphis.edu and do so. STEP 3—Begin accessing university computer resources. For more information concerning the resources offered to university account holders, browse the ITD website. Many of the major resources available are listed on the GET SERVICES web page.
