File Storage

Faculty, staff, and students can use UMdrive, a web-based file sharing service, to store files and to share them with others.  Each user of this service is given an initial quota of 250 megabytes of storage.  UMdrive can be accessed via the World-Wide web or can be attached to a computer as a network drive.

Files within UMdrive that are made public can be freely viewed by anyone who has access to the Internet.  The positive side of this feature is that UMdrive users can use their account space to publish websites; the negative side is that users must be vigilant in making sure that files within their account space that should remain confidential are not accidentally made public.  To that end, ITD has created a utility that UMdrive users can use to list the files in their accounts that are public.

A faculty member, staff member, or student who wishes to use UMdrive can gain access to the system simply by logging in using his or her universal user ID and password—no other setup is necessary.
