Data Encryption Standard ITD has developed standards for encryption to ensure that confidential data is protected from disclosure. Local Support Providers (LSPs) are responsible for assisting their users in creating an encrypted container for the hard drive of their computer and encrypting any portable devices or media used to store or transmit University data. TrueCrypt is the standard encryption software. This FREE open-source encryption software is available for download at http://www.truecrypt.org. TrueCrypt works with Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista, Mac OS X, and Linux operating systems and encrypts data using a 128-bit or 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) key. TrueCrypt can be used to encrypt an entire hard disk or USB drive or to create a password-protected encrypted partition that can be stored on either the hard disk or a removable device such as USB flash drive.
